Woman hits npower with her own admin costs

A CIRENCESTER woman is playing hardball with energy company npower over a mix-up with a gas bill - by demanding administrative costs for her time and effort.
When stiff-lipped Sue Ind received her quarterly gas and electricity bill from npower she promptly sent two cheques in payment.
So when she was later contacted by a debt collection agency chasing a missing payment - £47.99 for the gas - she checked a bank statement which confirmed the payment had been made. But when they asked to see a copy of the bank statement she told them they would have to pay a £25 administration fee.
The company refused to pay and instead responded by saying she would have her gas supply cut off.
Sue, 56, who lives in Stratton, explained: "Both cheques went in the same envelope so how can one have been paid and not the other one?
"When the debt collection people called I explained what happened and they asked if I could send them the bank statement. I said there's a £25 administration fee and the line went silent.

"What is good for the gander is good for the goose. Why can only banks and big companies charge for their time?"
After being contacted by the Standard npower apologised to Sue and offered her a £35 goodwill gesture.
A spokesman said: "We were extremely concerned to hear about the problems Ms Ind has been experiencing. It appears that her gas payment was credited onto another account by mistake.
"We would like to apologise to Ms Ind and offer her a goodwill gesture for this error."
However Sue was unimpressed with the offer and refused it saying she would be contacting her solicitor.
"As far as I'm concerned the aggrevation they have caused me through threatening me since September, I don't think £35 is adequate at all," she added.
