Centre marks anniversary

WILTSHIRE'S sexual assault referral centre has marked its second anniversary.

The facility based next to the Gablecross police station outside Swindon provides victims with immediate medical care, forensic examination and crisis counselling.

Jointly funded by Wiltshire Police and Swindon Primary Care Trust, it is now providing a 24-hour service, seven days a week with the help of extra funding.

Manager Jools-James Kempshall said: "Since opening we have dealt with men, women and children and both recent and historic assaults. It is never easy to come to terms with being sexually assaulted but the centre aims to provide comprehensive support to victims without causing them any further distress.

"Victims can access our service by telephoning the centre and arranging a time to come in and that could be straight away or at a more convenient time for the victim. It may seem a daunting task but our focus is always on the welfare of the people who walk through our doors."

The centre can be contacted on 01793 507811/507956 during office hours or for immediate help on 01371 812600.
