Vandal leaves trail of destruction.

DOZENS of South Cerney residents awoke to a trail of vandalism on Easter Sunday withmore than 30 cars having had their tyres slashed.

Windows were also broken throughout the village including at the village hall and scout hut.

Vehicles parked on The Leaze, The Lennards, Box Bush Road, Berkeley Close and High Street were damaged, although cars parked in driveways were ignored.

Residents found Police Aware' stickers on their cars after the attacks which was believed to have taken place between 2-4am on Sunday.

One resident said: ""Most vehicles suffered from destruction of one tyre although some suffered multiple attacks.

"Most people woke to see Police Aware' stickers on their cars but few received any direct contact with the police."

Sgt Garrett Gloyn of Cirencester police said: "We have got two police staff with contacts in the village working on two lines of enquiry at the moment.

"They are investigating whether it was a local offender or whether these incidents are possibly linked to an event that took place with an influx of visitors over the weekend."

Mike Stuart, chairman of South Cerney Parish Council, said: "It seems absolutely peculiar, we have never had anything like this before in South Cerney.

"Just think of the cost to repair all this, it doesn't bear thinking about. What possesses someone to do this sort of thing?"

My husband had two tyres on his car slashed and I would like to say that I have lived in the village all of my life and bought up my three children within the village, they are now grown up with families of their own. They or any of their friends would never have damaged other peoples property.I believe that if these people have no respect for other people or their
property then they certainly have no respect for themselves. When the culprit is found I hope it will not be just a smack on the back of the hand.
