IT IS time for young artists in and around Malmesbury to dig out their paintbrushes and colouring pens.

Malmesbury Carnival and Malmesbury in Bloom have both launched their annual art competitions and prizes from the Standard are up for grabs in each.

Colourful designs by local youngsters have featured on the front cover of the carnival programme for several years and the search is on for a vibrant picture to adorn the cover this summer.

Programme editor Tony Kellett said: "We had an excellent response last year and hope that this year will again produce some outstanding pieces of work."

Carnival competition pictures need to be A5 portrait-sized and contain no writing. Entries are in three age groups, up to six, seven to 11 and 12 to 16 inclusive.

They should be sent to The White House, Tetbury Hill, Malmesbury, SN16 9JW or the Standard office at 52 High Street, Malmesbury SN16 9AG by June 5.

Malmesbury in Bloom has chosen "My Favourite Flowers" as its theme this year.

Entry forms and details are available from the town hall staff on 01666 822143 and this time there are four categories - under four, four to six, seven to 11 and 12 to 16.
