CRICKET: Chivers faultless for Cerney

Oakridge v South Cerney CERNEY picked up 20 points in their first away game back in CDCA Division One.

Cerney won the toss and put Oakridge in to bat on a good looking track.

Hawkins and Robbins got Oakridge off to a good start before Stevens picked up the wicket of Robbins.

From there, wickets fell at a steady rate, with only Hawkins (38) and Deane (40) making any major contribution, with a partnership of 52, before a moment of brilliance from Main, who caught and bowled Deane, swung the match in favour of the visitors.

The pick of the Cerney bowlers were Jason Stevens with 3-28 and Paul Loxton with 3-7, helping to bowl Oakridge out for 116.

Dave Wheeler and Jason Stevens got Cerney off to a quick start, putting the pressure straight on to the Oakridge bowlers.

Stevens was the first wicket to fall and Wheeler was out shortly after.

This bought Derek Chivers to the crease and he batted almost faultlessly to guide Cerney home with 60 not out, including shots all round the wicket.

He was ably assisted by Main, who finished on 24 not. The Oakridge bowlers were always on the back foot defending a small total.
