Students fall to Earth for charity

DAREDEVILS from Cirencester College fell through the skies above Swindon in the name of charity last week.
Nine students and Tim Peffers, lecturer in Public Services, did a sponsored skydive from 12,000 feet to raise money for Bristol Children's Hospital, a cause very close to Mr Peffer's heart.
Last April his 13-week-old baby daughter Niamh died from emphysema after receiving treatment for most of her short life at the Bristol hospital.
Ever since Mr Peffers and his wife have worked tirelessly to raise funds to help buy much needed respiratory equipment for the hospital.
A total of £30,000 has been raised so far and with the skydive Mr Peffers is hoping to reach the target of £35,000.
He said: "We will never make sense of Niamh's short life but it has inspired us to help other children."
Nine students took part in the jump, they were: Christopher Hodgson, Lucas Ainscough, Chris Salter, Joe Flanagan, Jacob Ainscough, James De Ternant, Georgina Perry, Jake Hogan and Sam Underwood, pictured.
After the skydive last Friday, Mr Peffers told the Standard: "It wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. Obviously the worst part was leaving the aircraft - the falling was fine."
Another jump has been arranged for June 21.
