Hi-tech teen shelter plans for Chesterton
A VANDAL-PROOF teen shelter is planned for Chesterton to give youngsters a place to meet.
Cirencester Town Council invested £8,000 last September to provide a teen shelter and goal posts on the estate to combat anti-social behaviour.
Chairman of the Chesterton Community Project Bob Berry said the problem was the lack of facilities for teenagers.
The teen shelter is designed as place for youngsters aged between 11 and 18 to meet up instead of congregating in residential areas.
At a recent meeting the town council agreed to a further £2,000 towards getting a state-of-the-art shelter with extras such as a radio, a wi fi and bluetooth connection and solar-powered lighting.
Safety officer at Cotswold District Council Les Haines reassured residents at a neighbourhood police meeting last week that the shelter will be monitored by police.
He said: "There won't be a supervisor on site and the way they are looked after by youngsters varies from location. Some need close monitoring.
" We want it to be a safe place for people to meet with their friends."
Similar shelters have been successful in Lechlade and Tetbury.
Town councillor Deryck Nash said the extra £2,000 would make the shelter an asset.
He said: "If we are going to have one we might as well get the most up-to-date one possible."

That's great.. until it gets burned to the ground like the football club-house. Also, saying that this shelter will have bluetooth seems very odd as bluetooth is a method of two devices to communicate between each other, such as two phones or a computer and a printer.
