TO PROTEST against Cotswold District Council's new waste scheme a fuming resident has set up a group on the website Facebook.

Mark Bainbridge, from Kemble, was dismayed to see that rubbish left out last week had not been collected with yellow stickers on the of bags saying that they had been put out on the wrong day.

"The rubbish collection service is a disgrace and our village is littered with uncollected bin bags reminisent of the dustman strike of the 1980s," he said. "It's time to take some positive action on this stealth tax and garbage from CDC."

"I am incensed by the garbage that is our rubbish collection in Kemble since the new system was brought in."

He said that as the bags had not been collected cats and foxes ripped them open and the contents had been scattered across the road and pavement.

"It's laughable," he commented. "So far it's creating more mess than it's taking away.

"I think their new policy is not about recycling but is about halving the overhead by reducing the service to fortnightly collections.

"I have set up a Facebook group to harness the power of social networking."

Mr Bainbridge said he hopes the group, called Cotswold District Council Rubbish Rage', will allow people from the Cotswolds to come together online to express their views about the waste situation.

He said he also hopes a high enough number of people will join the group so that CDC will take notice.

Mike Harris, CDC waste communications officer, said: "It will take a few weeks for everyone to adjust to the new service and for SITA to establish exactly what resources in terms of staff and vehicles are required in the long term."

Facebook is a social networking website that launched in 2004, with 80million users worldwide.

Several groups on the site have had a big impact. For example, last year HSBC was forced to do a U-turn on overdraft charges on graduate accounts after a high number of people joined the group.

Councils ARE plural. A council is singular.
Look it up.

What a clever idea, and there are even people from California in the US of A,adding posts, think of that. I think Darren should put something on there, Was it Mr Hodgkisons idea?
I think if everyone leaves rotting food out then Mr Stow will have to back down.
After all he lives in the Mikleton area of Cirencester so he will get fed up with the smell very quickly.

Enough about CDC (which is quite clearly singular)- what on earth is the headline supposed to mean? Is Facebook itself going to rock up in Ciren with a Ak47 and 'waste' the council building? That I would like to see

I agree with Mr Bainbridge. This is just another way of cutting back on services we have already paid for. I was horrified to see that the rubbish collectors tipped all my carefully washed and sorted Aluminium dog food cartons, cans and glass jars all over my driveway and left four bags of rubbish behind. In the near future, unless something is done to sort this shambles out, there will be an even bigger rat population. I watched a nice big fat one eat it's way out of my now redundant plastic bin. Oh well, that was empty, but it won't take long for it to discover the lovely tasty left over food in the little green one!! Also, we are being forced to buy little green compostable bags from the council, which once wet, disintegrate as you pick them up, while there are good compostable ones on the market. If we use those instead, will they be taken away? My last point is that we have a septic tank and now have to use much more water to wash all the items mentioned. Will we receive an allowance towards having our tank emptied more frequently. Finally, how is the carbon footprint going to be reduced now that it takes four big trucks that block the roads which are to narrow for them all to fit through, so they sit waiting for each other to move with engines ticking over and stinking diesel fume pouring out. That coupled with extra maintenance costs and the cost of purchasing them in the first place is going to cost us, the tax payer even more expense.
